Llawanna F. Carroll

Jackson, Alabama native Llawanna F. Carroll, MPH, MLS(ASCP), graduated from Auburn University in 1976 with a degree in Laboratory Technology. After completing a year-long Medical Technology internship in Birmingham, AL, she started a career that has spanned over 45 years. After working as a Laboratory Manager at her hometown hospital for almost three years, Llawanna returned to Birmingham, where she received a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Throughout her healthcare career, she has also held a Night Shift Technologist and Staff Blood Banker position at a large urban medical center in Alabama and a Technical Services Supervisor and Compliance Manager at a regional Blood Center in Ohio. In 1990, Llawanna moved to Northern California and began working part-time as a Reference Laboratory Generalist. In 1992, she joined the UC Davis Medical Center Pathology Department as a Client Services Coordinator, performing full-time marketing and pathology education duties. Since moving with her family to Southern California, she has worked as a Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist focusing primarily on Blood Banking, Chemistry, and Hematology.

Entering her retirement years, Llawanna looks forward to spending more time reading, quilting, and visiting her three children and five grandchildren. Having several friends who have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, Llawanna realizes that patient education and awareness are critical to combatting this disease. She hopes to use her experience to assist the Prostate Cancer Awareness Foundation in achieving its goal of preventing more Prostate Cancer cases.
